LANG 1900 & 1902 (5 credit hours each)

These introductory courses in general education are designed to develop the skills needed to communicate in German at a basic level in everyday situations. Throughout the courses, emphasis will be placed on discussion skills, such as speaking, listening, and using cultural background information. Reading and writing skills, as well as a thorough study of basic grammatical structures, are also seen as essential to achieve the main objective of communication. Taped conversations, videos, and exercises accompanying the text reinforce classroom work. Supplementary materials to expand vocabulary and understanding of the German language cultures will be introduced at appropriate times.

**About German Instructor Stephanie Schottel

"Language is a true passion of mine, and that passion led me to earn a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Missouri - Columbia and a Master of Arts in German Studies from the University of Texas at Austin, where I was a teaching assistant. In addition to my time at UT-Austin, I have owned and operated my own K-12 tutoring business, Transcend Tutoring, as well as taught English as a Second Language at ELS Language Center. Coaching clients in a one-on-one environment is where I thrive. I currently provide English coaching to business leaders in Houston who speak English as a Second Language (ESL) via my company Cup of Tea Language Coaching. I have a well-honed knack for understanding the deeper messages that clients want to convey and helping them to express themselves fully in the target language. In addition to teaching ESL, I teach beginner German online for Barton Community College in Great Bend, Kansas."
