By empowering educators to choose materials that best meet the needs of their students, textbook freedom helps to reduce student costs while increasing accessibility to course materials. 

General Education Package & Low-Cost Degree Pathway

Through the use of Open Educational Resources (OER) Barton has outlined a Low-Cost General Education Package and Low-Cost Degree Pathway for Barton Online students to complete an Associates of Science, Arts, or General Studies degree with all course materials costing $50 or less per course. 

Low-Cost Degree Pathway

General Education Package

The Low-Cost Degree Pathway may be completed by enrolling in all OER certified Barton Online courses for an Associate of Arts, Science, or General Studies degree consisting of the systemwide general education requirements plus 25-26 additional credit hours.

Students can save money on course materials as OER certified courses listed (NC/LC) are $50 or less per course while completing a degree.

Completing the systemwide general education requirements of 34-35 credit hours at Barton will satisfy the systemwide general education requirements at a Kansas transfer institution, unless an exception for specific programs have been approved by the Kansas Board of Regents.

Students can save money on course materials while completing systemwide general education requirements for transfer.
